June '05 Summer BBQ

We had an excellent turnout for our summer barbecue on Sunday.  A total of 46 members, spouses, and guests enjoyed great food and camaraderie in the comfort of Will Sparkman's spacious hangar.

Bill Daubenberger manned the grill.  The chapter provided burgers, hot dogs, chips, and soda.  A few spouses generously cooked up some side dishes and desserts to share.  A great time was had by all.  Skip Ruhe suggested that we should do this more often and everyone agreed.
Jim Pyle reminded us that Chapter One will be hosting their summer barbecue on the 4th of July and extended an invitation to members of 1279 to come on out and join them for their "burger burn" and stay for a ringside seat of the annual "burning of the hill" (city fireworks display at the top of  Mt. Rubideux).
Art Froehlich surprised us by bring along a scale model of the Pietenpol Air Camper which he made in his home workshop as an example of the full scale project under construction in our builder workshop hangar. (See the home page for a bigger picture.)
Don Hoffman was our guest speaker and he gave us a very interesting talk about the progress being made at Carter Copter toward achieving their design goals.  He brought along a few props to illustrate the design concept.  The scale model of the Carter Copter with its 21st century technology offered a striking contrast to the scale model of the wood and fabric Pietenpol of yesteryear.
Thanks to Will and Joan Sparkman for their hospitality.  Thanks to Bill Daubenberger for doing the cooking.  Thanks to those who brought dishes to share.  And thanks to all those members who came out to enjoy this relaxing midyear treat.  We will do it again.
